Project Description

Schwab Eaton worked with the City of Augusta to create a park master plan for a future park to be located in a vacant lot on an abandoned rail line near downtown Augusta, KS. The master planning effort was requested as a result of a rail trail project that had been on-going and that interfaced with the vacant lot. Through online and in-person meetings, SE worked with the Park Advisory Board (PAB) to help identify desired goals and planned uses for the park. Existing conditions information was documented and several plan concepts were generated. Through a review process with the PAB a final concept was selected and a master plan with corresponding construction cost estimate was produced. SE also produced a three-dimensional model of the proposed park to aid in design visualization and project promotion. The City hopes to build the project in phases by including a portion of the park work in their current trail project.

The initial phase currently under development includes a Veterans Memorial Plaza. The memorial was designed in conjunction with the local Veterans of Foreign, War Chapter and local architect, William Morris.
