Schwab Eaton completed a new wastewater treatment plant design for the City of Sabetha, Kansas. The improvements included a new headworks facility, which encompassed mechanical and manual screens, a channel grinder, and grit removal/handling facilities. This project was unique because, unlike most small Kansas communities, Sabetha has a substantial industrial base. While the City’s population is approximately 2,500, the industrial uses increase the plant loading to an equivalent population of 21,000 people. Selecting equipment for this project was also challenging because the City experiences substantial inflow and infiltration, causing an extremely high plant peaking factor.
