Schwab-Eaton provided design and construction support services for this bridge replacement project on Highway K-15 in Dickinson County, Kansas. The replacement bridge was a three span reinforced concrete haunch slab bridge with a 40-foot roadway width. This stretch of Highway K-15 carries approximately 3,000 vehicles per day. This amount of traffic was significant enough to warrant carrying traffic through construction rather than provide a detour on other state routes. The existing bridge did not readily lend itself to being replaced one half at a time, so traffic was carried through construction on a shoo-fly detour. The shoo-fly was planned to minimize impacts on a nearby residence. The new bridge improved water flow in the channel and helped resolve drainage issues that affected the property owner.
