Schwab-Eaton worked with the City of Beloit, a small town in north-central Kansas, to replace infrastructure on Mill Street from South Street to 15th Street and revitalize the downtown business district. Improvements included new street pavement, curb and gutter, accessibility upgrades to meet ADA requirements, and period street lighting. Sidewalks were replaced in the downtown area. Brick pavers were incorporated immediately behind the curb for an additional aesthetic element and to facilitate installation of underground utilities. Schwab-Eaton worked closely with City officials to design a project that stayed within the City’s limited budget. Schwab-Eaton prepared design plans for new concrete streets, curb and gutter, and storm sewer infrastructure. Our engineers also assisted the City’s maintenance and construction crews with stamped concrete designs, street lighting, and other streetscape amenities. The City performed all of the construction in-house to minimize costs. The project is being implemented in phases, but the results to date have been a great improvement to Mill Street and the community’s business district.
